Prepare to Get Losted

Colin and I’s latest video is now available for your viewing pleasure on YouTube. This particular video entry follows the exploits of survivalist enthusiast Badger Stevens and his struggle to survive deep within the seething cesspool that is the Canadian Wilderness.

Fun Facts
– This was filmed at Crestwoods off the trail near some old beer cans and a giant wooden cross chained to a tree.
– The “Land Monster” was a wig!
– The fake urine was made by watering down apple juice
– The innards of the “Land Monster” was actually a slice of Schwarzwälder Schinken (which is basically Black Forest Ham) covered in fake blood.
– Badger’s dead son’s journal entries had actual writing and illustrations on them by myself and Paul
– The nazi pistol was a customized nerf gun made by Paul
– If we had just turned the camera slightly in a few shots you’d be able to see a bunch of houses. There was also a lot of construction noise in the background which fortunately didn’t turn up much on the final product.

Thanks for watching.

I’m Hooked

Last night I watched the inaugural game of the Seattle Sounders FC. This is the first time any of us has experienced an expansion franchise first hand and I honestly did not know what to expect. Despite playing soccer for most of my life I never especially liked the game and only had a mild interest when the World Cup came around. But there is something about the word “Seattle” on a jersey that just tickles my Cat Fancy.

I’ve heard the horror stories of expansion franchises but it seemed that Drew Carey and the crew had done a good enough job. They signed the best US national team goalie who has spent most of his career in Europe. They hired Sigi Schmid, a two-time MLS cup champion coach, to head the operation.

It was exciting to see Qwest Field electric again and the boys in green scored goal after goal, undressing the New York Red Bulls in all aspects of the game. Casey Keller, our goalie, made 2 great saves on the only two shots on goal he had to worry about. Fredy Montero was the star scoring two goals and assisting the third.

With a franchise being awarded to Vancouver, BC, and Portland which was announced today, I feel like soccer is finally breaking through and I am excited for a rivalry with close proximity. It was a rough year, but with the Huskies in the tournament, the M’s having hope, and the Seahawks turning things around, everything looks like its on the way up.

Three’s Company

Wow no posts since last thursday huh? Well it happens from time to time, I don’t have a lot to say but I figured I’d try and come up with something. I plan on doing a review of the new Resident Evil game once Paul and I advance a little further but aside from that not a lot is going on.

On to main topic of my post, can you believe Jack White has formed another band? The front man for the likes of such bands as The White Stripes and The Raconteurs has now formed a third group calling themselves The Dead Weather. Strangely enough Jack will be donning drumming duties with some vocals, but accompanying him will be vocalist/guitarist Alison Mosshart of The Kills, guitarist Dean Fertita a touring member of The Raconteurs and member of Queens of the Stone Age and Greenhornes/Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence. All members will contribute towards the band’s compositions.

Signed to White’s Third Man Records, the band’s debut album Horehound is due out this June and the lead single “Hang You from the Heavens”, sung by Mosshart, is already available on itunes and for streaming on the band’s official site. I checked it out on Youtube and I’d say it’s more or less your typical Jack White esque garage rock. Not sure what I think yet but I’m a Jack White fan so I’ll stick around to see what happens.

Blitz 2009

Hey, just thought I’d mention for those who are interested or haven’t heard, the Yeahs Yeahs Yeahs latest album It’s Blitz! has moved from it’s original release of mid april to today. I think it was due to some kind of leak back in February but as of March 9th it’s available on itunes and will be in stores tomorrow I believe. I’ve thus far only heard two tracks and it’s definitely an album that’s gonna have to win me over. If you haven’t been following the group they’ve adopted a synth/dance sound for their latest album and so far I’m kind of missing the raunchy edge that usually accompanies the trio’s music.

Looking ahead I can’t think of any really exciting album releases due out this spring. There’s Peter, Bjorn and John on March 30th and some other artists I’m not really big fans of like Iron and Wine and Green Day in May, but I’ll keep my ears peeled. That’s all I’ve got for today, now I just hope winter would end over here Kirkland.

Lame Night

I wasn’t sure if there was going to be a classic album segment today, but did anyone see NBC’s new Late Night? I’ve always found Jimmy Fallon pretty lame but I gave it a shot out of curiosity. What did I think? Ehh it didn’t do much for me. The opening monologue was pretty weak and Jimmy Fallon has absolutely no comedic presence. It’s always been a mystery to me how he even made it on to SNL with his all his uncontrollable laughter and insipid delivery. Some of his bits on his new show just didn’t make sense. “Lick it for Ten” where audience members licked objects like lawnmowers or printers for 10 bucks, but what’s funny about that? It’s not like those are really gross things, as a matter of fact they looked pretty damn clean. I wasn’t sure what was supposed to be funny about the showcase of “Blonde Mothers” either, not the most talented writing staff I suppose.

The interviews were a little bit better but it felt like a wasted opportunity with Robert De Niro. Jimmy Fallon jokes about all the questions he emailed De Niro beforehand but when the time came he didn’t really end up generating anything interesting to say anyways. Justin Timberlake was mildly amusing, though he’ll always be tarnished in my mind for his former boy band roots. Speaking of “roots’ what was the deal with The Roots being the house band? Is this going to be a permanent thing or what?

Well that’s all I got, things have been slow here at Cat Fancy but I assume everyone’s been pretty busy, I know have. I went ahead and got No Line on the Horizon today which definitely has it’s moments. I assume Colin will review that in time him being our “Go to U2 guy”. I’m pretty pumped for Watchmen this friday but even more so for Spring Break though it’s awhile from now, oh well Otteni out.

Tis Not the Season

It’s been a long time since I uploaded anything to Youtube, but today marks my comeback. I’d had problems with my camera and computer but yesterday I finally took the time to sort things out and upload a video AJ and I made last December. This was supposed to be part of a Christmas special but we only ended up filming two Christmas themed commercials. This one features Richard Fatbert from Film Talk promoting his latest Christmas CD. This is also my first video to be edited in Final Cut and I look forward to expanding my knowledge of the program, while as well as perhaps filming some more sketches in the not too distant future, enjoy!

Grown-Ass Men

We’re all getting so old, aren’t we?

Today, February 28, 2009, our old friend Colin finally leaves his teenage years in the past. That’s right, he’s a whopping 20 years old. But, sadly, Colin’s birth is not the single greatest thing to happen on February 28. I know, it’s hard to believe, but let’s take a look:

Today, in 1854, the Republican Party of the United States was formed. In 1861 Colorado became a territory. In 1939 someone found the word “dord” (which still isn’t a word) in Webster’s dictionary, and some serious shit went down. In 1940 the first basketball game to be televised was played. In 1983 the final episode of M*A*S*H aired, and it is still the most-watched episode in history. In 1991 the Gulf War ended today. And, of course, who could forget that earthquake in 2001? Colin shares his birthday with several notable historic figures, such as Benjamin Wadsworth, Brian Jones, Gilbert Gottfied and Mario Andretti.

Actually, you know what? In retrospect, I’m gonna give it to him. None of that history is that great. After all, who knows what the world would be like without Colin? Top scientists insure us that it would be a cold, dark world, but no one really knows how bad it would be. But a world without Mario Andretti?

Anyway, happy birthday C-Man.

Ooh, and here’s a “gift.” I put a rejected song from Robo Jockeys on the SLXP MySpace. Enjoy.
