T3 36: Top 10 Horror Movies

Are you prepared for a creeping, unsettling feeling? A feeling that leads you down a dark hallway of dread ending in a terror so sublime you’ll believe everything that is right and good in the world has been ripped away from you? Well, you’re going to have to get your fix somewhere else, weirdo. We generally keep things pretty light here at Top Ten Thursdays. Sure, this week you can expect a casual reference to the indiscretions of Catholic priests, but things aren’t going to be that far from the usual. We’re just talking about the greatest horror movies of all time, or at least our favorites. If nothing else, consider this a list of suggestions for your Hallow’s Eve.

T3 35: Top 10 Concept Albums

Happy birthday, original Nintendo Entertainment System! At least, we think so. It’s actually kind of hard to pinpoint exactly when the console came out. But, actually, that’s not what we’re talking about. That would be concept albums, in honor of an album that comes out on Tuesday that we’re all so excited about we can’t remember what it’s called. You know, the new Titus Andronicus record. So we got to talking and decide we should focus on concept albums. You know, albums about something. Unlike this paragraph.

Listen, then look at this list after the break. If you’re taking diligent notes, your version of the list should match ours!

T3 34: Top 10 Fictional Athletes

If we were going to post an episode late, you’d think it would have been last week’s show. Then I could have made jokes about how it traveled in time, which, while nothing’s coming to mind right now, I’m sure would have been fully amusing. But instead we’re a day late this week, meaning the best I’ve got is… Overtime? Here’s a buzzer-beater that didn’t beat the buzzer, our top 10 fictional athletes. Because, you know, the baseball season’s over, the NFL referee strike’s over, all sorts of stuff.

As always, keep reading only if you want the show spoiled for you.

T3 33: Top 10 Time Travel Movies

Do you believe in destiny? Were you fated to read this podcast description or did you truly arrive here of your own free will? If you could, would you go back and change your decision to be here? Would you change it all? Would you believe we found a way to talk about Back to the Future again? If Bruce Willis traveled back in time, and you were Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Bruce Willis said, “you grow up to be me,” wouldn’t you be pretty damn psyched about the rest of your life? If there’s anything I learned from the G.I. Joe 2 trailer, it’s that Bruce Willis is the coolest old man.

Top 10 time travel movies after the break, but you already knew that, didn’t you?

T3 32: Top 10 Mancrushes

The ultimate test of a man’s masculinity is defying everything it stands for and being able to live with yourself afterward. That’s the test we subjected ourselves to this week on T3, as we turned from our typical Tucker Maxian ways and admitted our mancrushes. You know, those men who we admire and respect and maybe care about just a little too much. What? It’s not a big deal! We’re just really comfortable with our sexualities. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

And now that I’ve gotten the easy jokes out of the way, have a listen.

T3 31: Top 10 SNL Cast Members

September. Just the word conjures images of colorful leaves, school buses, the return of long pants. Fortunately, it also means new images will be conjured in that special box, the television, as the big shows begin their new seasons. One we are particularly interested in this year is Saturday Night Live, which had some of its heavy hitters leave the cast this summer. Thinking about that got us thinking about the whole, grand history of SNL, and we finally settled on one question: Who are our favorite cast members of all time?

Listen to find out. Or just check the list after the break.

T3 30: Top 10 Albums of 2003

What did 2003 sound like to you? The early 2000s were a time of change, when digital distribution via iTunes and other, lesser services came into its own. When you could actually watch music videos on VH1 and MTV (actually MTV2, it wasn’t that long ago). When a little band called The Darkness came out with an album that changed just about everyone’s life. Now it’s nine years later, The Darkness have reunited and released a new album, and yet, we turn our gaze backward, to that time just before the 2004 election, when it seemed just about anything was possible.

Or maybe not. List’s after the break. If nothing else, you should listen to this episode for a brief appearance by indie music sensation Nick Duncan.
