Sean’s Top 10 TV Shows of 2017

I went into 2017 hoping that The Defenders would live up to Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and it really didn’t. Harmonquest‘s second season was a disappointment, but at least it survived the Seeso-geddon which has denied the world an already completed second season of Take My Wife. And then there was the longest, most inexplicable hiatus in Steven Universe history, right when we needed it least. Yes, there were many disappointments in the last year of TV, but there was even more to enjoy. Here, let me list 15 great shows to prove my point.

Sean’s Top 10 Albums of 2017

It’s time to admit my approach to music isn’t that great. I basically look at three websites and my Twitter feed for recommendations and add everything I find to my Apple Music library. In 2017, that was over 130 albums. What that boils down to is maybe five albums I really love and like 30 albums I would like to put on this list. And then the day comes when I have to write this post and it sucks. I artificially limit myself to only five honorable mentions, so, suffice it to say, there were some albums that could have been on this list earlier today that I won’t even talk about. This was the year that I tried to cut back on investing in media that I wouldn’t immediately use, and maybe in 2018 I’ll have to try to extend that approach to music too… On the other hand, maybe this is a good problem to have?

Colin’s Top 10 Albums of 2017

2017 was a year of highs and lows, but mostly lows. Fortunately, we were given plenty of highs in the form of plenty of great albums, as I never had a shortage of delightful tunes to get me through this year that was for the most part dismal. Granted, I still continue to feel overwhelmed by the amount of music available, as I’m now fairly entrenched in my commitment to streaming, while I still can’t help myself from buying lots of newer music on vinyl, mainly because I’m just a sucker for that limited edition colored vinyl. But hey, it was a year where indulging your vices was slightly more acceptable than usual. And luckily, with albums like these, I never felt a shred of guilt towards this most vital of indulgences. Sean’s Top 10 Video Games of 2016

As I spend my days now looking forward to the Nintendo Switch, I can’t help but remember this same feeling a year ago, when I was dreaming of finally getting my Oculus Rift. Little did I know that a few months later, a preorder communication/shipping fiasco would result in me switching over to the HTC Vive. Yeah, there was a lot of unexpected chaos in 2016, you might’ve heard.

Typically, late December and January is when I would do the most gaming, catching up on titles I missed out on now that they’re on sale, but that never happened. For a while there I got really sick and decided I only had enough energy to watch Terrace House. So anyway, even though I’m now frantically trying to get through Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian, Stardew Valley, Thumper, and a few others, I’m just going to have to write something about them independently when/if I finish them. Like my other lists, these are the games of 2016 that I liked in 2016.

Top 10 Movies of 2016

If 2016 was a script, it would have been rejected for being unrealistic and unrelenting. Lots of people have written something like that, but I don’t have a lot of time to work on this post because it’s already so late. This week we talk about our individual top 10 lists and try to come up with an overall list of our favorite films of the last year. Spoiler alert: we did it, we made that list. Hell yeah!

John’s Top Ten Movies of 2016

2016 may have been a bad year for politics, celebrities and gorilla memes, but it was a great year for movies. Even in the dark months of January and February, I had films like The Witch and Deadpool to keep me warm. Spring arrived with a bloom of superhero movies, some good (Captain America: Civil War), some unspeakably horrible… *cough, Batman vs. Superman.

The summer brought fun-in-the-sun family films; Finding Dory, Pete’s Dragon, and what I can only assume is the heartwarming romantic comedy that is Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Fall delivered understated dramas; Moonlight, Arrival, Manchester by the Sea. And Winter was ruled by Star Wars. Star Wars will rule Winter from now until the end of time.

Films I missed but wished I had seen before our deadline include; Manchester by the Sea, Hell or High Water, Paterson, Indignation, Certain Women, The Dark Horse, Edge of Seventeen and that O.J. Documentary everyone’s been raving about. I’ll get to those films eventually, until then, here’s what I did see and enjoyed in 2016.

Honorable Mention
The Handmaiden
La La Land
Sing Street
The Witch
