T3 68: Top 10 Sequels We’d Like to See

Some of the best movies of all time were sequels, like The Godfather Part 2, The Empire Strikes Back, and… uh… Ghostbusters 2? But also sometimes sequels are a dumb idea that only manage to tarnish the legacy of a good first movie. And that sucks. So this week, we’ve put together a list of surefire successes, so that those Hollywood fat cats don’t throw their money in the wrong direction.

Pitching Tents 02: Halloween Special

I certainly hope everyone is having a spooktacular Halloween! I know we were, because up until the last minute, I had no idea what to pitch. It’s so hard coming up with a new idea for a horror movie, there are just so many of them! Basically anyone you can possibly think of has tried to kill people in a movie at this point. Even yourself, as seen in movies where the killer has split personalities (which I won’t spoil here) or even more abstractly, like in Mirrors (I think). Ooh, what if the monsters were the heroes and the villagers were the villains? Congratulations, me, I’ve just come up with Bride of Frankenstein.

T3 67: Top 10 Annoying Children in Movies

When you were a little kid, did you ever imagine you got to join your favorite characters on their adventures? Obi Wan would teach you in the ways of the force, maybe, or Indiana Jones would need your help to secure a precious artifact, for example. Well, the filmmakers behind those films thought you had those fantasies, at least. That’s why they wrote little kids into the later movies in those storied franchises. The problem is, often the resulting characters were more annoying than anything else. That’s why this week we decided to count down our bottom 10 kids in film. It’s totally wizard!

Pitching Tents 01: Isolation

Here’s something a bit different. You know how sometimes they make movies? Do you ever wonder how executives and screenwriters come up with the ideas for those movies? Well, here’s our best approximation of what it’s like. It’s a new show for a growing network of podcasts for the smallest audience possible, Pitching Tents. It’s all about us trying to pitch (to each other) movies that would be the big tentpole films of the future. Yes, despite the title this has nothing to do with camping or boners.

T3: The Breaking Bad Special

As implied by my Dexter finale review, “Felina,” Breaking Bad‘s final episode, was actually not disappointing somehow. And while sure, you could argue the merits of focusing criticism on one episode of a serialized story like this, we felt it was meaty enough to talk about for 45 minutes or so. After all, something like 10 million people watched this episode, more than any before it. Which makes me wonder, how many marathoned the whole series? Isn’t it weird this show became a big deal in it’s last few weeks?

T3 66: Top 10 Things We Love About GTA

We end our late summer hiatus by spending this week talking about the thing everyone was talking about last week: Grand Theft Auto V. But can you blame us? It’s the biggest franchise in gaming, with massive appeal outside of core gamers. And it made like a billion dollars in three days. That’s Justin Timberlake money! So, you know… Yeah. Let’s talk about what makes this series so great.

T3 65: Top 10 Against-Type Performances

Bryan Cranston was recognizable, if not an outright star. He was Snizard on Power Rangers, Dr. Whatley on Seinfeld, Hal on Malcolm in the Middle. He was a known quantity, a fun, goofy guy. His niche was carved. And then he started playing a chemistry teacher with cancer and revealed to the world that he was secretly just as good, if not better, playing a menacing, dangerous antihero. And everything changed for the guy. This week, we look for other, similar instances of actors going against their type and it working. Somehow we ended up with just movie choices, despite our obvious Breaking Bad inspiration, but oh well, don’t worry about it.
