T3 46: Top 10 Series Finales

How about that 30 Rock finale, huh? Pretty sweet. There are a few ways to end a series, the most popular of which is cancellation. But the few that do get to go out on their own terms have some tough choices to make: Do they dramatically end everything? Do they get sentimental, reflecting on how far they came and maybe even bring back some long-lost characters? Or do they just simply suggest that despite the show ending, things will always be the same for our beloved characters? T3 43: Top 10 TV Shows of 2012

We go back from whence we came and do another best TV shows of the year list. A lot has changed in the year since we did in the first episode of this podcast, the top 10 shows of 2011. On NBC alone, Community went from cult phenomenon to a point of concern and longtime darlings 30 Rock and The Office began their final seasons. We all started watching new shows, some of them we really enjoyed, some of them we are ashed to like. I guess what I’m getting at is that this list isn’t necessarily just a rehash of what we talked about last year. At least, not entirely.

The Mildly Pleased Awards

2013! The super future! No one planned for humanity making it this far. Instead of staring down into the scary void that is the unknown future, let us instead look back at the year that was 2012. What we’ve got planned is about a month of best of 2012 lists. Why? Because we don’t have press passes, it take us time to catch up with everything. Plus, January is boring and nothing’s going on anyway. But before we get to the best ofs, there’s the Mildly Pleased Awards.

What are the Mildly Pleased Awards? They are an opportunity to look back at the things that often fall through the cracks on normal award shows – the stuff that is neither exceptionally bad nor especially good. The stuff that most people walk away from thinking, “well, that was OK,” and then immediately forget about. We remember.

T3 42: Top 10 Christmas Songs

Oh, Christmas and its inescapable songs. The holiday that was all-too-perfect for a capitalist nation has grown into an oppressive force, gobbling up everything in its path. It started, innocently enough, with December 24th being turned into Christmas Eve, but soon the entire month of December was under control of ol’ Saint Nick. Not satisfied there, the borders of Christmas have since expanded even further, taking over everything from the second Thanksgiving ends. And all the while we hear the echoes of this holiest day, building until only the merriest can take it anymore. Yes, as the Grinch said, Christmas music sure can be annoying. We dig through all that bell-heavy noise this week, hoping to find at least 10 truly great Xmas jams. Anyway, we’re taking a break next week, so you’ve got time to really savor this one, or catch up if you’ve fallen behind. Unless you believe the apocalypse is tomorrow, in which case, you’re going to have a lot of shopping to do come Saturday.
